Poppenhausen is located in the Main- Rhön. In his municipality the river Wern springs.

Etymology

The modifier "Popping " comes from the personal name " Boppo " or " Poppo ", a short form of " Bode Bert". Bode Bert is called " the ruler as Shining " was very popular, a name that will appeal to the noble Henneberger (county Henneberg ). The meaning of the place name Poppenhausen is thus " belonging to the houses of the Bode Bert". Local dialect " Bobbahausa ".

The oldest settlement certificates ( grave at Wiesberg ) date from the period 750-450 BC On December 8, 1223 Poppenhausen was first mentioned. 1517 the tower of the parish church was built. 1525 Popp houses farmers involved in the Peasants' War to the destruction of the offices in Ebenshausen. 1595 James the Elder was appointed patron.
