Geographical Location

Poppenhausen is located in the Main- Rhön. In his municipality the river Wern springs.

Etymology

The modifier "Popping " comes from the personal name " Boppo " or " Poppo ", a short form of " Bode Bert". Bode Bert is called " the ruler as Shining " was very popular, a name that will appeal to the noble Henneberger (county Henneberg ). The meaning of the place name Poppenhausen is thus " belonging to the houses of the Bode Bert". Local dialect " Bobbahausa ".

The oldest settlement certificates ( grave at Wiesberg ) date from the period 750-450 BC On December 8, 1223 Poppenhausen was first mentioned. 1517 the tower of the parish church was built. 1525 Popp houses farmers involved in the Peasants' War to the destruction of the offices in Ebenshausen. 1595 James the Elder was appointed patron. In 1659 it came to the billeting of troops of the Swedish General Wrangel. 1730 was the construction of the military road Meiningen - Muennerstadt -Schweinfurt by Poppenhausen. 1743 was built by the master builder Johann Müller of Eßleben the parish church. Since 1779, State Road Wurzburg -Meiningen runs through Poppenhausen. Since 1785 resulted in the itineraries of Wernecker coaching to Bad Kissingen, Bad Bocklet and Muennerstadt by Poppenhausen. 1791 Werner brewery was founded. On November 9, 1802, the post office was built with post office of the Imperial General Regensburg. As part of the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg Poppenhausen was since 1500 in the Frankish Empire circle. It was secularized in 1803 in Bavaria's favor, then leave in the Peace of Pressburg 1805, Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg and fell in 1814 with this final part of Bavaria. As part of the administrative reform in Bavaria was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community. In 1971, the municipalities grove Kronungen, Kützberg, Maibach and Pfersdorf joined together the greater community Poppenhausen.

Coat of arms

The guided since 1972 coat of arms shows in red on silver ground the silver -clad, barefooted Saint James, with pilgrim hat and pilgrim bottle, holding a golden pilgrim's staff in his right hand, the left on the bottom of a silver plant. The silver and red are the colors of Franconia.

Economy

It was in 2010 according to official statistics in the manufacturing sector and 333 in the area of trade and transport 75 persons work at the workplace. The A71 can be accessed via the port ( 29) Poppenhausen / Dittelbrunn. At the railway traffic of the place is a stopping point on the railway line Schweinfurt - tethered Meiningen.

Clubs

The band Poppenhausen eV has a long tradition, an exact founding date is unknown. Since 1995, the band Poppenhausen is a registered charity. The musicians are mainly from Poppenhausen, Grove and the surrounding communities. The young musicians are mostly trained at the club. Besides many performances take place every year in each case a spring concert and a Bohemian evening.
