History

While Poppi is now off the major roads and little is known, it played in the 13th and 14th centuries as the headquarters of a noble family, the Guidi, an important role in the events of the Tuscan countryside between Arezzo and Florence, and thus. Between Guelphs and Ghibellines Poppi is crowned by the castle of the Counts Guidi ( Castello dei Conti Guidi), which dominates the city and the Casentino. 1441 and therefore comparatively late, Poppi came under the rule of the Republic of Florence, which the expulsion of the Guidi was at the extreme end point of the old feudal in Tuscany at the same time.

The name " Poppi " can be etymologically the term " poplo ," meaning " hill " or "hill", traced from the Tyrrhenian voice era. Therefore, it stands to reason that even before the 8th century a settlement of that name was founded. Poppi is mentioned in sources but only in the 12th century.
