Poppo (Archbishop of Trier)

Poppo von Babenberg (* 986, † June 16, 1047 in Trier ) was from 1016 to 1047 Archbishop of Trier.

Life

Poppo was the son of Margrave Leopold I of Austria and his wife Richeza. He was educated in Regensburg. The German King Henry II appointed Poppo in 1007 for the first dean of the newly established Diocese of Bamberg.

After the death of Megingod in 1015, certain Emperor Henry II Poppo as the new Archbishop of Trier. Archbishop of Mainz consecrated Poppo Erkan Soon thereafter. A year later, in 1016, Pope Benedict VIII Poppo as the new Archbishop of Trier.

In a tour of the site Poppo died on June 16, 1047th He was buried in the monastery of St. Simeon donated by him in Trier. In 1803 he was reburied in St. Gervase.
