Poppy seed roll
Bejgli or sometimes Beigli is a traditional cake of Hungarian cuisine. It is available in two variants, as walnut roll ( Diós bejgli ) with walnuts and poppy as a role ( Makos bejgli ) with poppy seeds. Bejgli come from the Silesian cuisine and are traditionally eaten in Hungary at Christmas and Easter.
The dough is made from flour, egg yolks, butter and yeast. The poppy seed filling consists of ground poppy seeds, raisins, rum and vanilla; the walnut filling of raisins, rum, lemon zest and chopped walnuts. The dough is rolled thick. The filling is spread over the dough, which is then rolled into a uniform cylinder, coated with egg yolk and baked in the oven.
