Poppy seed roll

Bejgli or sometimes Beigli is a traditional cake of Hungarian cuisine. It is available in two variants, as walnut roll ( Diós bejgli ) with walnuts and poppy as a role ( Makos bejgli ) with poppy seeds. Bejgli come from the Silesian cuisine and are traditionally eaten in Hungary at Christmas and Easter.

The dough is made ​​from flour, egg yolks, butter and yeast. The poppy seed filling consists of ground poppy seeds, raisins, rum and vanilla; the walnut filling of raisins, rum, lemon zest and chopped walnuts. The dough is rolled thick. The filling is spread over the dough, which is then rolled into a uniform cylinder, coated with egg yolk and baked in the oven.
