Porlezza

Porlezza is a seaside resort in northern Italy on the eastern shore of Lake Lugano municipality with 4732 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). The municipality belongs to the Province of Como in the Lombardy region.

Location and data

The municipality includes the districts Porlezza Begna, Cima and Tavordo. The neighboring municipalities are Bene Lario, Carlazzo, Claino con Osteno, Corrido, Lenno, Ossuccio, Ponna, Val Rezzonico and Valsolda.

Traffic

The municipality is situated on the road from Lugano to Menaggio ( Lake Como ). The part along the Lake of Lugano has been expanded in recent years through tunnels partially. The planned tunnel between the Swiss border and Porlezza ( 7 km Statale Regina 340) would have to be opened in February 2011. The opening of the under construction for 25 years tunnel however, was initially postponed until September 2011. The tunnel was the beginning of October 2012 and opened to traffic. There are also ferry connections across the Lugano lakes and the villages along the lake.
