Port (Ain)

Port is a commune in the French department of Ain ​​, in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Port is set to 477 m above sea level. M., approximately 13 kilometers south-southwest of the city Oyonnax (air line). The village is located in the northern Bugey, on the western shore of the Lac de Nantua in the Jura, at the edge of the plain of Brion and at the entrance into the Juraquertal the cluse de Nantua, at the northern foot of the Montagne de Chamoise.

History

The first mentioned in the 11th century port belonged to the monastery Nantua. In the Middle Ages the village was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Savoy. The Treaty of Lyon port arrived in 1601 to France.

Attractions

The original Gothic village church of Sainte -Marie -Madeleine was restored in the 19th century and enlarged. Among the natural attractions include the Lac de Nantua, which embedded in a basin lies between steep, crossed by bands of rock slopes.
