Port- Cros (French Île de Port- Cros ) is one of the three main islands situated in the Mediterranean islands of Ile d' Hyères (Eng. " Hyèrische islands "). The islands belong to France, and are only a few kilometers off the southern coast of France ( Côte d' Azur). The entire island is part of the National Park of Port-Cros.

History

In the early 1920s the beauty and nature of the island was threatened by intensive Hotel building, the owner family overwrote the island to the French State on the condition here to implement a national park and these to entertain for all time as well.

Here once spent artists such as Paul Valéry and André Gide their summer holidays. To this day, the former stately home - Maison d' Hélène - the only hotel on the island. Former French President François Mitterrand kept coming back to this island - once with the then reigning Chancellor Helmut Kohl.
