Port Huron Flags (UHL)

The Port Huron Flags were an American ice hockey team from Port Huron, Michigan. The team played from 2005 to 2007 in the United Hockey League.

History

The team was founded in 2005 as a franchise of the United Hockey League. In Port Huron, they replaced the void left by the displaced in the same year Port Huron Border Cats in the city. The team itself was named after an eponymous team, which was active from 1962 to 1981 in the International Hockey League. In their inaugural season the flags occupied the fifth and thus last place of the Central Division. In the 2006/07 season they improved to fourth place of their division, so they qualified for the playoffs for the Colonial Cup. In this they lost in the first round of the Muskegon Fury in the best- of-seven series with a sweep.

In May 2007, negotiations between the team owner about a sale were unsuccessful, prompting the team officially ceased the operation of gambling on 18 May 2007. They were replaced by the Port Huron Icehawks who competed from 2007 to 2010 at the now renamed International Hockey League league.
