Port Huron Township is a township in St. Clair County, Michigan in the United States. In 2000 lived in the township of 8615 people, the projection of the Census Bureau for 2006 showed 11,066 residents. The City of Port Huron is located next to it, but is administratively independent.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 33.9 km ², of which 33.5 km ² of land and 0.4 km ² omitted ( = 1.37 %) to water.
Demography
At the time of the census of 2000, the township inhabited 8615 people. The population density was 257.5 people per km ². There were 3478 housing units at an average 269.1 per km ². The population consisted of 93.63 % White, 3.46 % African American, 0.62 % Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.02 % Pacific Islander, 0.62 % reported from other races and 1.31 % from two or more races. 2.46 % of the population to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Residents of the Township distributed to 3310 households out of which 34.2% were living in children under 18 years. 58.2 % married couples living together, 11.7 % had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.2 % were non-families. 20.6% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 7.3 % of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size is 2.97.
The city population was spread out with 25.8 % under the, 7.7 % 18 -24- year-old, 30.4 % 25 -44- year-old, 23.6% 45-64 year olds and 12.5 % under the age of 65 years or more. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males. In the over -18s accounted for 100 women 95.0 males.
The median household income for the township was 43,978 U.S. dollars and the median family income reached the height of 50,978 U.S. dollars. The average income of men was 44,024 U.S. dollars, compared to 23,478 U.S. dollars for women. The per capita income reached 21,583 U.S. dollars. 7.4 % of the population and 4.9 % of families had affected an income below the poverty line, including 7.9 % of minors and 5.7 % of those age 65 or over.
