Port Isaac

Port Isaac is a fishing village on the north coast of the county of Cornwall in southwest England. The nearest major town is called Wadebridge and is about 15 kilometers on the road. Port Gaverne is considered, despite its own individual history as the district of Port Isaac.

Port Isaac was in the past, from the Middle Ages until the 19th century, a busy port for the transshipment of goods such as stone, coal, wood and ceramics. Fishing and fish processing have also had great importance, and even today, crabs and lobsters are still fished. In addition, tourism plays an increasingly important role.

In the old center of the village with its narrow, located down the slopes winding streets, there are many architecturally and historically significant cottages from the 18th and 19th centuries. Also known is the shanty choir " The Fisherman 's Friends" that occurs every Friday evening in the old harbor.

Port Isaac has some nearby for both surfers and families suitable beaches. Not far away there is also the Longcross Victorian Garden and Pencarrow House & Gardens and the manor house of Lanhydrock House. Two steam railways in the region are the Bodmin and Wenford Railway ( standard gauge ) and the Launceston Steam Railway ( narrow gauge ).

From the 1980s, Port Isaac was the filming location for numerous film and television productions. Examples:
