Port of Anchorage

The Port Anchorage (English Port of Anchorage ) is a seaport in Anchorage, Alaska, United States. It is used as a freight and passenger port. The ice-free deep water port was opened in 1915. It is the successor harbor for Port of Seward, which was destroyed in an earthquake.

Location

The port is located at the bend arm in Cook Inlet ( Ship Creek ) in the Gulf of Alaska, which is part of the Pacific Ocean, and is located in the western part of the city of Anchorage.

Owner and operator

Owned by the city administration Anchorage ( Municipality of Anchorage ). The city comes with the " Port of Anchorage " to a Public Company. The supervisor has the Anchorage Port Commission.

Importance

Economic Importance

Of special importance is the port due to its envelope of petroleum. He is also a major cruise port. Almost 90 % of all goods for Alaska are handled via this port.

Military importance

Since 2006, the port one of the 16 most important strategic seaports is of military importance for the United States Department of Defense ( Nationally Strategic Seaport ), partly because of the oil supply of the Joint Base Elmendorf -Richards.
