Port of Murmansk

The port of Murmansk (Russian Мурманский морской торговый порт ) is a seaport in Russia. It is used as a freight port and military base of the Russian naval fleet ( Northern Fleet ). Operator and management company since 1994, was a government corporation; the majority of shares held since 2013 enterprises of the Russian billionaire Andrei Melnichenko Igorewitsch. From 1941 to 1945 he was the port of destination of the important North Sea convoys.

Location

The port is located in the Arctic Ocean in the Barents Sea to the Kola Peninsula on the western outskirts of Murmansk ( Federal District North-West Russia ). The ice-free port is located on the Northeast Passage and is the northernmost ice-free port of Russia.
