Port Renfrew

Port Renfrew is a Canadian settlement ( unincorporated place) on the west coast of Vancouver Iceland in the province of British Columbia. It is located on the Juan de Fuca Strait, about two hours drive north- west of the provincial capital city of Victoria at the end of Highway 14 Since the 2006 census 33.2 % of residents have left the settlement, so that the Census 2011 only 139 inhabitants in the community lived.

History

Originally the town was called Port San Juan (named after the more Western U.S. Islands San Juan Islands ), but was renamed in honor of Lord Renfrews in Port Renfrew.

Tourism

The community is located at the southern end of the trail West Coast Trail ( to German: West Coast Path), which was built in 1907 to salvage shipwrecked sailors. The community is now starting or end point for hiking on this trail.

The community offers excellent conditions for canoeing.
