Port-Sainte-Foy-et-Ponchapt

Port-Sainte -Foy- et- Ponchapt is a French small town with 2489 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Dordogne in the Aquitaine region. It is with respect to the municipal area and population, the largest municipality in the canton Vélines. The municipality belongs since 2004 to the Association of Municipalities Pays Foyen.

Geography

Port-Sainte -Foy- et- Ponchapt located in the southwest of France, 63 kilometers east of Bordeaux, 22 kilometers west of Bergerac, the seat of the sub-prefecture of the arrondissements, and 7.6 kilometers east of Vélines, the capital of the canton, on a medium height of 87 meters above the sea level. History

Originally, Port-Sainte -Foy- et- Ponchapt the port of Sainte -Foy- la -Grande. The small town was the Stone Age a meeting place of people as numerous finds of stone tools attest to flint. The community of Port -Sainte -Foy was born in 1859 by the merger of the municipalities of Saint -Avit -de- Tizac, Le Canet and La Rouquette. In 1960, the town was incorporated Ponchapt and the community was given its present name.

The Catholic Church of Ponchapt was originally the chapel of a castle. The castle was destroyed in the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ).
