Portadown FC

The Portadown Football Club is a Northern Irish football club from Portadown, who plays in the IFA Premiership, the top division in Northern Ireland.

History

The club was founded in 1924 won the Gold Cup in 1934 with his first title. Other regional titles followed in subsequent decades, however, the club was able to celebrate his first major title until the 1990s. So you won the first time in 1990, the Northern Ireland Championship and made it the following year to defend this title. It succeeded in 1991, the Double, as the Glenavon FC in the cup final was beaten 2-1.

1996 Portadown FC won its third league title and in the same year the Northern Irish League Cup with a 2-1 victory against the Crusaders FC. In 1999 followed the second cup win as final opponents Cliftonville were excluded. The title defense failed by a 0-1 final defeat to Glentoran.

2002 celebrated Portadown FC his fourth championship, as you pointed Glentoran with one point ahead of second place. You missed the double by a 1-2 defeat in the cup final against FC Linfield. In the 2005 finale, it was better, the Larne FC was outclassed 5-1.

By decision of 30 April 2008 the Portadown FC has the license to participate in the redesigned IFA Premiership denied because the club had submitted the application for licensing after the deadline. An appeal against the decision of the IFA License Committee was rejected by the IFA Appeals Chamber subsequently.

Thus, the Portadown FC had in the 2008 /09 season in the second division, the IFA Championship ( formerly First Division ), compete. The " ports " but succeeded with the championship in the IFA Championship 2009, the immediate promotion back to the IFA Premiership.
