Portales is a city in the eastern part of the U.S. state of New Mexico in Roosevelt County. It has 11,131 inhabitants and an area of 17.7 km ². The city is also the Eastern New Mexico University, the third largest university in the state. In the Portales is the county seat ( county seat ).

History

Portales was founded in 1800 as Los Portales. Portales is, to German gate. First Mayor of the city was Washington Lyndsey Ellsworth.
