Porter H. Dale

Porter Hinman Dale ( born March 1, 1867 in Iceland Pond, Vermont, † October 6, 1933 in Westmore, Vermont ) was an American politician ( Republican), who represented the state of Vermont in both chambers of Congress.

Early years and political rise

Dale Porter attended the public schools of his native place and later continued his education at the Eastman Business College in Poughkeepsie continued. Then he studied in Philadelphia and Boston; Moreover, he was taught for two years in the art of acting. After working in the sequence as a teacher in Waterbury and Lewiston, Dale eventually studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1896, after which he began practicing as a lawyer in Iceland Pond.

Between 1897 and 1910, Dale worked as a deputy tax collector of Iceland Pond. Thereafter, he was appointed Judge of the City Court of Brighton. His political career began in 1910 with the membership of the Senate from Vermont, where he remained until 1914. Dale also served in the state militia and as a Colonel on the staff of the Governor of Vermont. He was also active in various sectors of the economy as a businessman.

In Congress

As of March 4, 1915 Dale Porter represented the 2nd Congressional District of Vermont in the House of Representatives of the United States. He has been repeatedly confirmed and remained until August 11, 1923 in this chamber of parliament, before he was resigning from office to run for the U.S. Senate. There was the office of the deceased on 11 July of the same year William P. Dillingham quit. Dale decided the by-election for himself and moved into the Senate on November 6, 1923. Dillingham original term of office ended on March 3, 1927; However, Dale succeeded not only in 1926 but also in 1932 the confirmation by the voters.

Shortly after starting his own third term, however, Porter Dale passed away at his summer resort Westmoreland. During his time in the Senate he was one of the Chairmen of the Committee on Civil Service. He was buried in his hometown of Iceland Pond.
