Portishead Railway

The Bristol and Portishead Pier and Railway was a railway company in Somerset in England.

Around 1846 had the Portbury Pier and Railway plan to build a railway line from Bristol to the seashore. This project was not implemented.

On June 29, 1863, the Bristol and Portishead Pier and Railway was established to build the previous plans following in Portishead a pier and to build a railway line from the Bristol and Exeter Railway route in Bedminster Downs Portbury. The 16 -kilometer performed in 2.14 meter broad gauge line was opened on 12 April 1867. On 5 July 1879, the port was put into operation. The pier was later used as a way station for ocean liner.

After the acquisition of the B & ER in 1876 by ​​the Great Western Railway, GWR led the operation by the wayside. With effect from 1 July 1884, the company was eventually taken over by the Great Western.
