Portree

Portree ( Scottish Gaelic: Port Righ, German: the port of the King) is the capital and the only city in the island of Skye, the largest island belonging to Scotland Inner Hebrides.

According to a survey by the British government in 2006 to live in Portree about 2,070 people. In summer, about as many tourists keep in place.

The small port of the city is protected from black cliffs and the pyramid-shaped mountain Ben Tianavaig, of which the island of Raasay is seen. Its name dates back to a visit to the Scottish King James V in 1540.

Portree has a museum dedicated to the history of the island, The Aros Experience, provides the details about Bonnie Prince Charlie and Flora MacDonald and where some of the gold records of the Scottish band Runrig be issued.

Nearby is the small village Skeabost.
