Position (Poker)

The position in poker refers to the order in which the players have to act in certain poker variants. The positions are always relative to the dealer, the actual at home games, online and in the fictional casino dealer. Its position is indicated by a token called the dealer button, marked, and travels, as well as the other positions after each game a place in a clockwise direction.

Position distribution at the 10- table

At a full table with ten players ( longhand ) the distribution of positions at the poker game Texas hold'em looks like this ( the abbreviations are also used in online games, and in the poker literature used ):

Blinds

The blinds must wager a minimum amount; they sit in the second round ( applies to the count ) unfavorable at the front, but have in the first round the privilege to its ultimate form. The term blinds so is not only for use but also for the player and his respective position.

1 Small Blind 2 big blind (usually double the amount from the small blind )

Front position

3 under the gun ( UTG ) is the worst poker position because he has to put the first, in the following rounds at least one of the first in the first round. Because he, unlike the blinds only voluntarily brings the basic bet, is played here as a rule only with the very best starting hands.

4 under the gun 1 ( UTG 1) 5 under the gun 2 ( UTG 2)

Middle Position

6 middle position 1 (MP1 ) 7 middle position 2 (MP2 ) 8 middle position 3 (MP3)

Rear position

9 cut-off (CO) 10 button (BU ), the imaginary ( Matches at home actual ) encoder, which sets out in the first round ( pre-flop ) as the last

On shorthanded table

( Or the table is not full ) If as is often played on TV or online in high limit games at the small table, count the positions starting from the dealer button by turning counterclockwise. The counting ends in front of the blinds. The remaining positions are eliminated. At a table with 6 people, the positions would be as follows:

1 Small blind 2 Big blind 3 Middle Position 1 (MP 1) 4 Mean position 2 ( MP 2) 5 Cut off (CO) 6 button (BU )

Have position or have no position

  • Man " has position " on players who have put in front of a and therefore their behavior based conclusions on the strength of their leaves pull (late position).
  • Man " has no position " on players coming to the series for one. It does not have any information regarding the hand strength of these opponents, who may call it incorporated its own setting behavior in their decision ( early position ).

The position therefore is one of the most important strategic elements in poker. The later appear at the series is, the more information you can gather about the hand of his opponents. The best position is therefore that of the Austeilers, in this case the button position. Position is so important that advanced players in the first round of betting increase extra to get to the left of them the courts to vacate empty until the button is called positional play.
