Post-medieval archaeology

The Modern archeology deals as an archaeological discipline with the material remains of the modern era. It begins about the 16th century and extends to the time history (eg investigations in concentration camps or at the former inner-German border ).

Given the increasing availability of written sources the modern age archeology in Germany has hardly accepted. An exception is the industrial archeology, but - at least as far as the modern era - albeit from the history of technology, as derived from the archaeological research.

Methodically, the archeology of the modern era is closely associated with the medieval archeology. This expands their research activities increasingly in modern times.
