Poster Girl is an American documentary short film from the year 2010. In 2011, the film was nominated for an Academy Award.

Prehistory

The filmmaker Sara Nesson worked in the summer of 2008 on a documentary called Iraq Paper Scissors about the Combat Paper Project, in which returning soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder from their uniforms manufacture of paper and then use this to books or works of art. One of the participants, Sergeant Robynn Murray, Nesson fell on during the filming and Nesson asked if she could accompany with the camera Murray. Murray agreed and was accompanied by two years with the camera. Robynn Murray came forward after high school to the Army and was stationed in Iraq from May 2004. She volunteered for the Civil Affairs Division with the objective to help the people of Iraq. A few days after their arrival, Murray, however, was used as a machine gunner in convoys. As a result, Murray was mapped to a figurehead for female soldiers and among others on the cover of Army magazine.

Action

The camera accompanies Murray, who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, to authorities, to therapies and in very private moments in which Murray near, among other things, a final collapse, with bare hands beats a hole in the wall of her bedroom. Nesson filming Murray in their activities for the Iraq Veterans Against War and in the Combat Paper Project. Murray talks about her experiences in Iraq and how much she regrets what she did there. In the credits it is mentioned that Murray's post-traumatic stress disorder was recognized by the Army.
