Posterior cutaneous nerve of thigh

The posterior femoral cutaneous nerve ( " posterior thigh skin nerve" ) is a sensitive nerve of the cross braid ( sacral plexus ). It innervates the skin of the thighs back to the knee and part of the dam. In animals, it is called a femoral cutaneous nerve caudalis.

The cells of origin ( root ) cells of the nerve are located in the cross section of the spinal cord from the first to the third sacral vertebra (S1- S3).

Course

The nerve passes in humans together with the inferior gluteal nerve, the inferior gluteal artery and vein, the sciatic nerve, the pudendal nerve and the internal pudendal artery and vein infrapiriforme through the foramen, the part of the greater sciatic foramen below the piriformis muscle.
