Pot Black

Pot Black was a snooker tournament, which has played an important role in the popularization of modern snooker. The tournament was first held from 1969 to 1986 and found in 1991, and from 2005 to 2007 a ​​new edition. It was at any time an invitational tournament, so never world ranking points were awarded.

After the introduction of color television in the UK in 1969, the BBC was looking for a sport that turned out the advantages of the color display. The choice fell on snooker because of the colored balls. It was a knockout tournament with weekly one-frame matches launched the Pot Black.

The mode but was varied over again. In 1974, once played two frames together and counted the points from two frames, in 1978, there was a Best of Three mode. Mid-1980s, but the longer matches had become so popular that the Pot Black has been discontinued. In 1991 there were a one-off edition. In the 2005 edition again only a single frame was played.

The highest break in the history of pot Blacks succeeded Mark J. Williams in 2006 when he won the final against John Higgins with 119 points.
