Potency (pharmacology)

The term potency is a measure of the potency of a drug as a function of dose or concentration of pharmacology.

Is measured, the concentration of the drug at which an effect occurs. A drug with a high potency already shows a large effect even at low concentrations. Since the term potency is vague, more information is needed for an accurate characterization. Agonists, are usually employed in the EC50, that is the molar concentration of agonist, at which 50 % of the maximum possible effect of this substance can occur. This is the concentration of a drug, wherein the concentration-response curve in a logarithmic representation of the abscissa has its turning point.
