Clusius cinquefoil ( Potentilla clusiana )

The plant genus of herbs fingers ( Potentilla ) belongs to the rose family ( Rosaceae ) and comprises about 300 to 500 species.

Description

The Potentilla species are mostly herbaceous plants, rarely are one-, two -year-old plants or shrubs. The stems are erect or creeping. The composite leaves are fingered or pinnate, the stipules more or less adherent to the petioles.

The flowers are borne singly or in zymösen inflorescences. The hermaphroditic, flowers are radial symmetry fünfzählig. The five sepals alternate with the addition of five sepals. The five free petals are usually yellow, rarely white or purple. There are usually many ( about 20 ) stamens present. The most many carpels are free. Finger herbs grow well on rich soils and grow best in sunny locations.

Others

Some cinquefoil species and varieties are also popular ornamental plants for gardens and parks. Finger herbs were formerly used for the control of the Ruhr, hence the old name "Ruhr herb".
