The Circuito de Potrero de los Funes is a race track in the Argentine province of San Luis around the reservoir Embalse Potrero de los Funes. The semi-permanent course was built in 1987 for the first time and re-erected in 2008.

Layout

The 6.270 km long circuit runs on public roads around the lake, which, however, expanded race track similar. The very fluid and fast circuit was only slightly changed compared to the layout of the 1980s. So two chicanes (curves 5 ​​and 6, and 11-13) were installed and the pit lane and the Start-/Ziel-Anlagen were laid. This formerly located on the opposite side of the lake between the present curves 8 and 9

The popular among drivers course is characterized by two completely different parts. In addition to the liquid, fast and demanding curves on the edge of the lake shore is in the last part of the route a twisty section. Here, the vehicles have to pass some serpentine -like curves, before heading back towards the finish line.

Racing history

The first revival of the course in 1987, several races were held. It died two spectators in an accident in the race of Turismo Carretera, another accident happened in a support race. These events meant that the course was not used again.

At the resurrection of the course was provided by the SRO Motorsports Group, which examined events in countries outside Europe. The course was built within 10 months, at a cost of about 56 million pesos (about 9 million euros ).

The FIA ​​GT Championship guested 2008 for the first time on the course, frame series was among other things the TC2000. After this in 2009 became the main event, returned to the 2010 racing season, the FIA ​​GT1 World Championship back on the course.
