The Pottawatomie County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Shawnee.

Geography

The County is located just north-east of the geographic center of Oklahoma and has an area of ​​2055 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Lincoln County, Okfuskee County, Seminole County, Pontotoc County, McClain County, Cleveland County and Oklahoma County.

History

Pottawatomie County was formed in 1891 as an original county of free territory. It was named after the North American Indian tribe of Potawatomi. The County ( Oklahoma Land Run ) was settled by white settlers during the second official land ownership acquisition of 22 September 1891.
