Potters Bar is a town in the English county of Hertfordshire and is situated directly on the border with Greater London and at the London orbital motorway, the M25.

The city has 21.639 inhabitants ( 2001) and belongs to the metropolitan catchment area of London. Within the county, it is administratively assigned to the district Hertsmere.

Originally Potters Bar belonged to the county of Middlesex. As 1965 Greater London has been formed and dissolved in return, Middlesex, you came to the county of Hertfordshire.

The town lies on the railway line between King's Cross and York the London train station and came into the headlines when on 10 May 2002 by a railway accident seven people were killed and 76 were injured. Among the injured was the children's author Nina Bawden, whose husband Austen Kark was killed in the accident.
