Poul F. Joensen

Frederik Poul Joensen ( born November 18, 1898 in Sumba, Faroe Islands, † June 27, 1970 in Froðba, in the Faroe Islands also Pól F. Joensen, but mostly Poul F. Joensen ) was a Faroese poet who primarily for his irreverent satires noticed.

Biography

Poul is on November 18, 1898 in the southern town of the Faroe Islands, Sumba, the son of Daniel Jacob Joensen í Horg and Anna Sofia, born Langaard, ( both from the place ) was born. Later Poul F. Joensen Julia Mortensen marries Froðba.

He graduated in 1917 the Faroe Islands in Torshavn school teacher and taught in 1919-27 Froðba on his home island Suðuroy. The teaching profession does not like it, so he prefers to work as a simple man on his small farm.

Joensen takes in his satirical work not mince words what many of his contemporaries goes a little too far. He swings his sword on all kinds of authorities, and in particular the bigotry some ecclesiastic. No fundamental pillars of society is safe from his scorn. For his love poems in turn he learns undivided appreciation in the country. Likewise, he makes himself worthy of the 20th century, by which he himself writes down in the Faroese literature for the preservation of the old kvæði ( Faroese ballads ).

1963 Pól F. Joensen was honored for his life's work with the Faroese Literature Prize. Long after his death, he is repeatedly recited and set to music, such as by Eivør Pálsdóttir on her debut album in 2000.

On 19 January 2007, a bust was unveiled in honor Joensens in the School of Sumba, who prepared the Italian sculptor Giovanni Francesco nun from gypsum. On June 17, a monument was followed prior to his former home in Froðba.
