Pounds per square inch

Pound -force per square inch or incorrectly even just pound per square inch ( " pounds per square inch ") is an Anglo-American, common in the United States unit of pressure, it is an old unit that are not part of the SI system and thus is now used only for traditional reasons in the United States. In science, the unit is used Pascal.

Unit symbol: lb.p.sq.in., psi.

1 lb.p.sq.in. = 1 psi = 144 lb.p.sq.ft = 1/2000 tn.sh.p.sq.in = 1/2240 = 6894.75729 tn.p.sq.in Pa

Often the unit is named in more detail with psia (pounds -force per square inch absolute ) for the absolute pressure or psig (pounds -force per square inch gauge ) for the relative pressure (gauge pressure).

At higher pressures or stresses in some cases, the unit ksi (1 ksi = 1000 psi ) is used.
