Povljana

Povljane (it. Pogliana ) is a municipality in Croatia in the Zadar County.

Location and population

Povljane is located in the southern part of the island of Pag on the coast. Opposite is the island Vir, separated by the channel of Povljane. The location protects the community from the strong winds as the Bora and Jugo.

The municipality has 759 inhabitants Povljane ( census 2011) and lives mainly from tourism.

History

Since Roman times Povljane is populated, as excavations in Stara Povljane testify. Since 1954, tourism has grown in importance. Povljane is one of the leading tourist resorts on the island of Pag.
