Powderfinger

Powderfinger was a rock band founded in Brisbane, Australia in 1989. It was named band of Neil Young on the Rust Never Sleeps album contained the same song.

History

In the initial phase in 1989, the band initially played only cover songs. After two EPs, the band moved to Polydor and released in 1994 the first album, Parables for Wooden Ears, but the poorly sold. After a few singles, and tours of Australia, the band released the album Double Allergic, the position reached four, ten weeks remained in the top ten and a total of 200,000 have been sold in September 1996. In 1998, the album Internationalist was released, which remained in the top 20 for over a year.

In 1999, the band a total of four awards from the Australian Recording Industry Association for Best Album, Best Rock Album, the best cover design and Best Song ( The Day You Come ). 2000, the next album, Odyssey Number Five was recorded. After it had gone to number one, it reached already after 13 weeks quadruple platinum. The song My Kind of Scene was on the soundtrack to Mission: Impossible II published.

The album Vulture Street in 2003 reached also number one on the Australian charts and sold a total of 350,000 times. After a few gigs overseas, the band returned to Australia and toured there with the John Butler Trio Live on Vulture Street tour. The live album These Days - Live in Concert includes a performance in Sydney from this same tour and placed himself, as well as the best of Fingerprints: Best of 1994 - 2000, in 2004 to position 2 of the Australian album charts.

In 2005, the band toured on the Big Day Out and played beside additional performances in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, before the band took a break in which Darren Middleton took care of his project Drag and Bernard Fanning for the release of a solo album.

The pause should last until early 2007, when they started in Los Angeles with the recording of the album Dream Days at the Hotel Existence, whose title refers to The Brooklyn Revue by Paul Auster on the novel. It was unclear if the album as announced would be released on June 2. Reason for this was that is referenced in a song on the murder of an Aborigine in Great Palm Iceland, which was negotiated only on June 12.

On 9 April 2010 the band announced during a press conference that they will be resolved in late 2010 after a final tour of Australia. Rumor has based this step that Bernard Fanning Australia wishes to leave with his family to settle in Spain.
