Powderham Castle

Powderham Castle is located south of the English city of Exeter in the county of Devon. The associated property extends to the west side of the estuary of the River Exe between the villages of Kenton and Starcross.

The Powderham Castle was built in 1390-1420 by Sir Philip Courtenay and is still owned by the family, the Earls of Devon. The building has the typical for the Middle Ages long hall floor plan with six towers, of which only one still standing. In the 18th and 19th century, the building was modified and expanded, the most sustainable in the 1790s by the famous architect James Wyatt. Today's access through the gate, across the courtyard and through the Knights' Hall dates back to the 19th century at the time of the 10th Earl, William, back.
