Geography

Geographical location

The municipality is located in Poxdorf Regnitztal on the outskirts of the Franconian Switzerland between the cities of Erlangen and Forchheim, about seven kilometers south-east of Forchheim.

Neighboring municipalities are (from north clockwise beginning ): Forchheim, Effeltrich, Langensendelbach, Baierdorf.

History

The settlement Poxdorfs should be done with the exploration and colonization of the Forchheimer / Nuremberg forest 1007-1062 or 1150. Poxdorf belonged since the late Middle Ages to the secularization of the Bishopric of Bamberg and from 1500 also the Frankish kingdom circle. Since the Imperial Diet of 1803 the place belonged to Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

Assignments

On 1 May 1978, the former district of Haguenau was ceded with about 600 inhabitants of the city Baierdorf in district of Erlangen - Hochstadt.

Religion

The inhabitants are Roman Catholic, 85% Protestant, 10% and 5% sale of other or no religion. Poxdorf is the seat of a Catholic parish, the Virgin Mary. Evangelical Christians are looked after by the Evangelical Lutheran Church congregation Baierdorf.
