Prachinburi ( Thai: ปราจีนบุรี ) is the capital of the province of Prachinburi in the eastern region of central Thailand. Prachinburi is also the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Prachinburi.

The town of Prachinburi ( เทศบาล เมือง ปราจีนบุรี ) has 18,046 inhabitants. (2012 )

Location

Prachinburi is located on the eastern edge of the central plain and is about 90 kilometers from the capital Bangkok. The area is crossed by numerous canals, the Khlongs.

History

The area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, as findings show.

Prachinburi is an old foundation of the Mon people, and even after the conquest by the Khmer in the 10th century, the city retained its importance as it lay on an important trade route from India to Cambodia to China.

Attractions

  • Dam - in the vicinity of this town, built since 1200 by the Khmer king Jayavarman to ensure regular watering of the fertile land.

Education

In Prachinburi is a side campus of King Mongkut 's University of Technology North Bangkok.
