Prado (Montevideo)

Prado is a neighborhood ( barrio ) of the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo.

Location and geography

It is located in the northern part of the city. The district is established by its alleys and its early 20th century, influenced partly upscale residential development. The district is doing the east by the Avenida Millán, north through the Camino Castro, the Avenida Agraciada bounded on the west and south by the running Bulevar Artigas.

Currently, here are 20 672 inhabitants recorded (as of 2005).

Description

Within the district extends a spacious park, by the results of the Arroyo Miguelete. Also located in the district of the botanical garden Jardin Botanico Profesor Atilio Lombardo and the Residencia de Suarez y Reyes Presidential residence of the President of Uruguay. Further notable buildings are the church Iglesia de los Hermanos Carmelites, the Castillo Soneira, the Casa Coste malls, Casa Maya y Silva, the Casa quinta Eastman, Casa quinta Alfonso Seré, the Edificio Salvo, the Hotel del Paso del Molino, Hotel del Prado and since 1999 Monumento Histórico Nacional classified as Casa quinta Aurelio Berro, in which the registered office of Uruguay National Garden is.

Furthermore, the Prado is home to three football stadiums. These are the Parque José Nasazzi, the Parque Federico Saroldi and the Parque Alfredo V. Viera. There, the clubs Bella Vista, River Plate and Montevideo Wanderers usually play their home games.
