Pragelpass north

The Pragelpass is a mountain pass in Switzerland, which links Muotatal in the canton of Schwyz in the canton of Glarus with Klöntal.

It lies between the towns of Muotathal and Riedern, the pass is a 1'548 m above sea level. M., the west of Drusberg ( 2'282 m above sea level. M. ), east of the Pragel ( 2'319 m above sea level. M. ). The road runs mostly single track and rises above all of Schwyz strongly of (up 18%), then leads to the Glarus side at Klöntalersee over. The road runs parallel to the Klausen Pass.

In early October 1799 the Generalissimo Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov crossed in the second coalition war the pass with an army of between 15,000 and 20,000 men. Between 1766 and 1908 failed several attempts to build a road over the pass, as the project of a narrow-gauge railway from 1911 remained unrealized. 1940, today a pass road was built on the Glarus side, the Schwyz part followed in 1974. The road on which the Swiss military was involved took place, mainly from military considerations.

Since 1978, a short piece of the eastern ramp is disabled ( by Richisau to the cantonal border between Glarus and Schwyz ) on weekends for the motor vehicle traffic to prevent Weekend through traffic.

As of August 2008, and in 2009 the Pragelbus wrong in the summer several times a day between Hoelloch and Richisau, the second year in the off season only on weekends. In December 2009, the offer was discontinued for cost reasons.
