Praia Grande to German Great beach, is a city in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, with about 245,000 inhabitants (as of 2008) over an area of 149 km ². This gives a population density of 1,646 inhabitants / km ². The about 84 km drive from the capital São Paulo city is part of the metropolitan area around the port city of Santos, Baixada Santista. Praia Grande has the official status of a spa, an Estancia BALNEARIA.

The city is bordered to the north by São Bernardo do Campo, São Vicente in the northeast, Mongaguá in the West and São Paulo in the northwest. The eastern and southern boundary of the city forms the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.

Economically dominant tourism, but primarily serves Praia Grande as a bedroom community of the region.
