Praseodymium (III ) oxide is a chemical compound selected from the group of the oxides.
Production and representation
Praseodymium (III) -oxide can be obtained as well as praseodymium ( IV) oxide by reaction of Pro2 praseodymium with oxygen.
It can be obtained with hydrazine or dehydrogenation of praseodymium (III ) hydroxide by reduction of the black praseodymium (III, IV ) oxide, Pr6O11.
Properties
Praseodymium (III ) oxide is a yellow powder which is insoluble in water. It happens both in a white hexagonal shape and in a yellow to green cubic crystal structure. Under moist conditions, it reacts quickly to praseodymium (III ) hydroxide.
Use
Praseodymium (III ) oxide is used for the coloration of glass and ceramics. It is also being studied as a material for semiconductor devices.
