The island is next to Prater Museum Island one of the two fortified and built Isar Islands Munich.

Geography

The island has an area of 3.6 acres, with a length of 524 meters and a maximum width of 95 meters.

In the north of the island Maximilian bridge leads from the road to Maximilian Maximilianeum. On the Prater Island is located next to the " action Praterinsel " with artists' studios and meeting rooms and the Alpine Museum of the German Alpine Club.

The Prater island is accessible via several footbridges: The Marianne bridge connects the island to the west bank of the Isar, the cable bridge to the east bank. History

The Prater island initially served as a recreational and kitchen garden, the Franciscan monks had created there.

The buyer was Anton Riemerschmid who built " Bavarian privileged alcohol, spirits, liqueur and vinegar factory Royal " on the property in 1870 for its factory buildings. Today's studio house in the east of the island was then built as Heizgebäude.

The grandson of the factory owner, Robert Riemerschmid, who continued the liquor business, held next in the 1920s symposia and lectures with internationally renowned scientists, artists, writers and politicians on the island. In addition to the increase of the former public house to a floor, another connecting building between the north and the west wing was built by the architect Richard Riemerschmid.
