Pratovecchio

Prato Vecchio is a district of Prato Vecchio Stia, with 3080 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Arezzo, in Tuscany region of Italy.

Geography

The site covers approximately 75 km ². He is almost 45 km north of Arezzo and 50 km east of Florence on the Arno River and in the mountain valley of the Casentino. The village was part of the Comunità montana del Casentino.

Other districts include Campolombardo, Casalino, Castel Castagnaio, Gualdo, Lonnano, San Donato, Tartiglia, Valiana and Villa.

The nearby towns are Bagno di Romagna (FC), Castel San Niccolò, Londa ( FI), Montemignaio, Pelago ( FI), Poppi, Rufina (FI ), Santa Sofia ( FC) and Stia.

History

In established as a fief of the Counts Guidi Middle Ages, the city was at the beginning of the 15th century under the control of the Republic of Florence. 1929 created by merger with the neighboring municipality of Stia the Prato Vecchio Stia. This was the administrative unit in 1872, was assigned as Prato Vecchio different communities restored. Due to the dissatisfaction of both places on this split, the places were separated again in 1934. A re- merging the municipalities took place on 1 January 2014.

Attractions

  • Castello di di Romana, 1088 resulting castle, about 200 m is situated on a hill above the main village.
  • Chiesa dei Santi Vito e Modesto, church in the district Lonnano, which dates from the 12th century. Contains the work of Santi Vito e Modesto inginocchiati by Benedetto Veli.
  • Chiesa di San Biagio, built in the 11th century church.
  • Chiesa di Santa Maria a Poppiena, for the first time in 1099 documented church. Was restored in 1935 by Giuseppe Castellucci and contains the work of Giovanni dal Ponte Annunciation.
  • Chiesa di San Romolo a Valiana, church built in 1126 in the district Valiana.
  • Monastero di Santa Maria della Neve, monastery in the center of Piazza Landino, which was founded in 1567. Contains frescoes by Giuseppe Kamaldulensermönches Baccani.
  • Monastero di San Giovanni Evangelista e chiesa monastery and church in the center of Piazza Landino. Originated in 1134 by the Guidi and includes the work Incoronazione della Vergine da parte della Trinità ei Santi Giovanni Battista, Giovanni Evangelista, Romualdo e Benedetto Giovanni Bizzelli (1600 originated ).
  • Pieve di San Pietro a Romena, Pieve from the 12th century, which belonged to the Castello di di Romana.
  • Propositura Nome di Gesù, the Most Holy, resulting 1592-1661 Church, which is the main church of the town today. Includes works by Giovanni del Biondo (Madonna con il Bambino ei Santi Pietro e Paolo e il lateral con i Santi Giovanni Battista e Sant'Antonio Abate, 1386 originated ) and Francesco Mati (Madonna del Rosario coi quindici misteri, 1589 originated ).
