Pratt & Whitney R-2000 Twin Wasp

The Pratt & Whitney R -2000 ( also Pratt & Whitney Twin Wasp ) is an air-cooled aircraft engine of the U.S. manufacturer Pratt & Whitney. The double motor with 2 × 7 cylinders and radial compressor (compressor) was an enlarged version of the Pratt & Whitney R -1830 developed ten years earlier. The engine capacity of 2,000 cubic inches ( 32.8 liters) was achieved by increasing the bore by ¼ inch. The P & W R - 2000 C-54 Skymaster, and mainly used in the Douglas DC- 4, in particular the military version of the De Havilland Canada DHC -4 Caribou. The first flight took place in 1942.

Of the civilian versions of the versions 2SD -G, 2SD1 -G, D3, D5 and 2SD13 - G were produced in series. The D6 version was designed for helicopters, where the equipped with a fan for forced cooling, as well as an altered lubricating oil circuit of the dry sump lubrication engine is installed inclined or vertically.
