Pratt & Whitney X-1800

The Pratt & Whitney X -1800 was the project of a U.S. water-cooled 24-cylinder H engine. The planned military designation was Pratt & Whitney H- 2600. He was intended for the aircraft Vultee XP -54, Curtiss -Wright XP -55, Northrop XP -56 and Lockheed XP -49 and had a design capacity from 1850 to 2200 hp from a displacement of 42.6 liters. To ensure good performance at high altitudes, it was equipped with turbochargers.

The engine should be manufactured in large series from 1942. But back in 1940 was seen in failed test runs that a significant need for further development existed. Pratt & Whitney then decided to concentrate on radial engines and stopped the development of the X -1800 in October 1940.
