Pratteln (Basel German: Brattele [ bʀɑ tələ ˑ ] ) is a municipality in the district of Liestal in the canton of Basel -Country in Switzerland.

Geography

Pratteln is located at 298 m above sea level. M., bounded on the north by the Rhine and on the south by the Gempen and Eagle Mountain. The municipality also includes the industrial area Swiss Hall and part of the large marshalling yard Muttenz. Neighboring communities of Pratteln Augst, Füllinsdorf, Frenk village, Muttenz, the Solothurn Gempen and on the northern side of the Rhine, the German Grenzach- Wyhlen.

History

Pratteln was settled very early and remains have been found from the Neolithic Age and the Iron Age, for example, Celtic grave mounds, foundations of Roman villas and grave finds from the Early Middle Ages.

The place name comes from the early Pratteln Gallo-Roman * Pradello, a diminutive form to Latin pratum " meadow ".

Economy

Pratteln is a typical suburb of Basel. Much industry has settled here, but the community is very keen in the village and also in the southern part, to qualify as a residential community with a high quality of life. It counts 15,000 inhabitants, with their well already as a small town and has, particularly in the panel -like quarters Längi and Rankacker, one of the largest foreigner rates throughout the canton Basel-Land.

Pratteln has a freeway connection to the A2 towards Basel ( Germany / France) and Plateau ( Lucerne, Interlaken, Zurich, Bern ).
