Prausnitz–Küstner test

The Prausnitz - Küstner attempt or Prausnitz - Küstner reaction is a test for an allergy of the immediate type dar. He shows after intracutaneous injection of sterile allergic serum in non -sensitized, a local allergic - hyperergic tissue reaction.

Carl W. Prausnitz and his assistant Heinz Küstner, published in 1921 the results of their self-experiments: Küstner was allergic to fish and Prausnitz to pollen. If Küstners serum was injected into the skin of Prausnitz, an inflammatory wheal developed there quickly after the injection of antigen fish.

This experiment showed for the first time after skin-sensitizing antibodies. In 1925 they were called Coca and Grove as " reagins " and identified in 1967 by K. and T. Ishizaka as IgE. The Prausnitz - Küstner attempt was an important basis for Allergy Research and has also been used in practice. However, since transmission of infectious diseases can not be excluded, the technically simpler IgE determination has now taken its place ..
