Pravasi Bharatiya Samman

The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman (English Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, also Non-Resident Indian Award, abbreviation PBSA ) is a high honor of India, are honored with the deserved since 2003 people of Indian diaspora.

Procedure

The award of the prize is carried out formally by the Indian President. The award program is Pravasi Bharatiya Divas part of the on 9 January each year, the non- resident Indian Day, a special day of remembrance of the foreign Sinder. This day commemorates the arrival of Mahatma Gandhi in India, after he had left South Africa. All proposals for the award ceremony, the preparations and the organizational overall responsibility for the day are the Ministry of Overseas Affairs of India (Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, MOIA ).

Criteria

The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman can be connected to residence Indians outside India ( non- resident Indian, NRIs ) and persons of Indian origin (Persons of Indian Origin, PIO ), who hold another citizenship, granted. Likewise receive this award organizations and institutions whose founding is based on the use of such persons or run by them.

Criteria for the award of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman merits are:

  • To a better understanding of India abroad,
  • In support of Indian Affairs in a special way,
  • To the formation of close relations between India, the Indian community overseas and their country of residence,
  • In social and humanitarian services in India or abroad,
  • By supporting regional Indian community (community)
  • Through philanthropic and charitable work
  • Through their outstanding achievements in their own field of activity or other outstanding work, which has served the prestige of India in the country of residence of the person and
  • By the high reputation of incapacitated people, whereby the prestige of India has been improved in other countries ( for volunteering).
