Pravia

Pravia is a municipality in the autonomous community of Asturias, in northern Spain.

Geography

In the north, the community is bordered by Candamo and Soto del Barco, in the south of Candamo and Salas, in the west of Cudillero and to the east of Soto del Barco.

The rivers Nalón Narcea and Aranguín traverse the municipality; Salmon have here due to the cleanliness of the water for a long time here you spawning area.

Geology

  • By the emergence of the Paleozoic, the soil mostly of sandstone, quartzite, dolomite, shale, and limestone.
  • Several smaller mountains with a height of up to 678 meters are a beautiful hiking area for nature lovers.
  • The region is crossed by prairie, pine forests and eucalyptus trees.

Climate

Being close to the sea, there is here a climate with summer temperatures up to 30 degrees Celsius and in winter rarely drop below 0 degrees before. Spring and autumn are often rainy but mild.

History

As in the whole Asturias are also finds from the Stone Age, a testament to the long colonization of the region. Especially along the Nalón gold and other materials been mined in ancient times.

Documentary first mention is from the year 774 when King Silo its seat of government in the nearby Santianes established.

During the reign of Alfonso II was also the capital of the Kingdom of Asturias.

Economy

First and foremost, agriculture is still the main employer in the region. Crops are here mainly emmer, rye, wheat and hemp. The most important crop the Faba is mentioned, which is required for the court bean stew. The construction industry is the second largest employer in the region, followed by trade and administration. Tourism in the region is increasing.
