Preacher (comics)

Preacher is a British comic book series created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon, which can be classified in the genre noir, western, horror, fantasy and splatter.

Creation and publication

The original series, which consists of a large, self-contained story that appeared from 1995 to 2000. Writer and lyricist was the Irishman Garth Ennis. Ennis had previously worked in the U.S. series such as The Demon and Hellblazer and in the UK on Judge Dredd, to the latter two already, together with ' Preacher' illustrator Steve Dillon.

The American Preacher - books released on the DC Comics Vertigo sublabel with a standard volume of 22 pages each, with the exception of expenditure 1, 50 and 66, each with 40 pages. Special attention was given the series also because of the cover illustrations by Glenn Fabry.

Content

Main characters of the fictional, based in the USA of the nineties, in individual episodes but also in Europe Preacher cycle are the former preacher Jesse Custer, his girlfriend Tulip and the Irish -born vampire Cassidy. An out of earth held rebellion of angels is a sequence of events in motion that three persons listed fall into its center rather reluctantly. A mysterious massacre in a church in East Texas serves only as a starting point to bring the road movie -like story in motion. Opponent in the story are various redneck sheriffs and FBI officials, the so-called " Holy the Killer", a his perverse inclinations frönender Southern family clan, freaks and perverts and a fascist organization influenced among other things by Church authorities that world domination on earth aspires. The series provides regularly for discussion because of the representation of God as a sort of villain who stands behind everything in the history Pictured evil.

German publications

In Comics Edition Speedline published 1995 14 Paperbacks with the complete series on German. With the renaming of the publisher appeared in speed from 1998 in parallel once the whole series in book form as well as another seven special volumes. Six of these ideas were also collected in three other paperbacks. Since 2007, a voltage applied to nine volumes hardcover edition of the complete series including all specials appear at Panini.
