Preah Ko

Preah Ko is a temple near the town of Siem Reap in Cambodia. He belongs to the Roluos group.

Preah Ko was built in the late 9th century during the reign of King Indravarman I. in the new capital Hariharalaya and consecrated according to an inscription on January 25, 880. The central sanctuary was dedicated Paramesvara, also a name of the Hindu god Shiva and the nickname of the former king Jayavarman II The facility consists of six tower blocks on a common basis. Surrounded is the central sanctuary of two concentric square wall installations of laterite and an enclosing wide moat. Both the first time scale walls with gopuram (gate - towers as access to the area ) and the moat, and today known as libraries freestanding additions were later temples in the region characteristic elements of the architecture of Angkor. Preah Ko is eponymous become I. of the architectural style of Khmer during the reign Indravarman.

Before the buildings are three figures, each representing the mount of Lord Shiva, the bull Nandi. Hence the modern name of the temple - " temple of the Holy Ox".
